This beautiful example of a E36 M3 came in with what we call a “Death Wobble”. After going through the complete suspension we found a badly worn steering rack and loose stabiliser links. Some of you may wonder what a Death Wobble is, let us explain; what it is, what are the symptoms and the solution. What is a Death Wobble? Death wobble is describes escalating suspension vibration, often violent front suspension vibrations exhibited by solid front axle suspensions, and more infrequently, independent front suspensions. It’s a serious concern that should immediately be addressed by anyone who experiences any of the death wobble symptoms while driving. Symptoms When death wobble occurs, you will feel a shaking in the steering wheel, which will increase or decrease with speed, and depending on severity, shaking throughout the vehicle. Even just one death wobble incident can cause permanent and dangerous suspension or steering damage. Solution Correcting death wobble is often a slow and meticulous process of elimination of the possible causes. To determine why your vehicle might have undergone a death wobble, it’s a good idea to have your tires, your steering, and your suspension system inspected to look for any worn-out or damaged components, or to determine if its alignment is out of spec.
